Having a spice allergy is extremely rare but it can happen. In most circumstances, reactions are pretty mild. Severe reactions only happen occassionally.
In terms of spices, allergens are commonly mustard, coriander, caraway, fennel, paprika or saffron and, less frequently, to onions, garlic or chives.
Reactions to mustard have been reported to cause anaphylaxis, particularly in mainland Europe, where mustard is used more frequently.
Spice allergy is more often the case with sufferers with a pollen allergy.
