Avoid Allergic Rhinitis Symptoms By Cutting Out Dairy
Filed Under Allergy Symptoms, Allergy Prevention, Food Allergy, Milk Allergy | 2 Comments
You can avoid allergic rhinitis symptoms by cutting out diary and diary related products, as advised by Gordon Jackson, a naturopathic doctor.
Dairy is a very common food allergy. It is much easier to avoid as compared to airborne allergens.
Here are the steps of what you can do:
1. Cut out all diary products including milk, chocolate, ice cream, cakes, cheese or just about anything that contains milk as an ingredient.
2. Continue with this elimination diet for a period of 6 weeks.
3. During this elimination period, you may consider other sources of calcium. You may also want to consider consuming soy or rice milk.
4. After 6 weeks, try dairy again.
5. Observe for any allergic rhinitis symptoms. These include runny nose and extra mucus. You may also experience achiness and tiredness within 72 hours after consuming dairy.
6. If you have allergic rhinitis symptoms, then consider giving up dairy and all dairy related products for good.
Tip: Even if you do not have classic symptoms of allergic rhinitis, you may want to reduce your intake of dairy products as they are known to create mucus in your body; thereby contributing to congestion and respiratory diseases.

Milk Allergy Or Milk Intolerance?
Filed Under Food Allergy, Milk Allergy | Leave a Comment
It is important to distinguish whether you are having a milk allergy or just a case of milk intolerance. Knowing how you would react to milk can mean taking appropriate actions.
Some of the most common symptoms of a milk allergy include swelling, hives, coughing, wheezing, shock, and even death if treatment is not initiated quickly. The reaction to the proteins in the milk, casein and whey, normally occurs within 45 minutes of exposure to the proteins in breastmilk, formula, or regular milk. Milk allergy symptoms are considered more severe than if you just have a milk intolerance.
Lactose intolerance is the most common reaction that infants, children, and adults have to milk. The symptoms of lactose intolerance normally occur 45 minutes to almost a day after consuming it. Gas and diarrhea are the two most common symptoms of lactose intolerance. Although this is not dangerous by itself, t can be a nuisance to your life.
If you have a milk allergy, then obviously you need to avoid the milk in all forms. You can consider taking soy milk or formula for alternatives.
If you merely have a lactose intolerance, you still have to avoid milk if you do not want to suffer from gas and diarrhoea. You can still consume small amounts of milk containing foods but you should limit their intake.
