Here are 10 tips to relief:

1. Comb through each room for any corner that may harbor dust. Take out items under the bed, contents of the closet, and any other ‘dust collectors’.  Find ways to store these items without accumulating dust.  You can use plastic bags or sealed plastic bins for storage.

2. Remove loose carpet and clean and scrub woodwork and floors.  Regularly clean with a vacuum equipped with a filter for allergens.

3. Clean floors, furniture, door frames, window sills, ‘knick knacks’, books, and any other items with a cloth that is somewhat damp or oiled, depending on what you are cleaning.

4. Wash bedding, pillows, throw rugs, curtains or any upholstered item every week.  Use hot water to kill dust mites.

5. Refrain from leaving dirty laundry in the bedroom.  This is a perfect place for dust to collect and for dead skin to hide.

6. Purchase an air filter to remove airborne allergens and to keep dust out of the room.

7. Dust mites love to accumulate on mattresses and pillows. It is difficult to clean them weekly.  Fortunately, there are inexpensive covers that can be purchased that are specially designed to zip around pillows and mattresses and they keep dust mites out.

8. Clutter in children’s rooms can pose a danger. Heaps of toys and stuffed animals can make a place for dust to collect.  If you do not want to spend money on organizers, you can put up inexpensive shelves and organize toys in plastic bins on the shelves so that the room can be cleaned every week without taking out all of the toys.

9. Clean your car regularly. Use a vacuum attachment, or the vacuum at the gas station, to clean the upholstery. There are also small air filters that are made to plug into the adapter and work in a car.

10. Even though you take steps to get dust mite allergy relief, sometimes nasal congestion gets uncomfortable.  A saline spray can provide instant relief.  Take ½ teaspoon of salt and dissolve it in ½ cup of lukewarm water.  You can spray it with a bulb or other type of syringe into the nose.  Over the counter saline sprays can have a bitter taste and smell because of the preservatives and it is very easy to make your own at home.

Although dust is present everywhere, it is possible to reduce symptoms of dust mite allergy.  By making some adjustments, you will find that your allergies are much easier to control.

can be triggered by many factors, including allergies and illness.  This is why many asthmatic people prefer to stay away away from aromatherapy to avoid exacerbating inflammation and congestion at the chest.  However, when used carefully, aromatherapy for asthma can help ease symptoms for many people.

You should only try new fragrances at a time when your asthma is under control.  Start in small doses and gradually work your way up.  Always treat your asthma with caution.  Just because you used a fragrance one day does not mean that it will be safe to use indiscriminately the next day.

There are several ways to use aromatherapy:

Aromatherapy Steam

Steam is often used to open the airways.  By carefully using a very dilute essential oil with the steam, the relaxing and refreshing results can be heightened.  Before using steam for an essential oil, be sure that you do not have an allergy or sensitivity to the fragrance.

Diffuser

The use of steam can be difficult for some people and it is usually used in a concentrated time.  The use of a diffuser or humidifier allows you to use a small amount of essential oil that will not require constant maintenance.  You can set up your diffuser with the oil and then turn your attention to a good book and a cup of hot tea with lemon.

Always dilute the essential oils to a solution of about one to two percent.  Keep safety in mind while using essential oils.  Check with your aroma therapist if you have chronic conditions or if you are pregnant to make sure that you are using the oils safely.  Aromatherapy for asthma can be a great way to naturally ease symptoms and find relaxation when it is used with caution.  The natural medicinal properties of essential oils can bring you relief and comfort.

Chest rubs

Essential oils that help to counteract congestion can be used with great effect. Peppermint, chamomile, and ginger can be used in a chest rub.  Stronger oils such as eucalyptus and tea tree oil must be used with care because they are strong oils.  Relaxation can sometimes help control the tension and spasms involved with asthma, and so relaxants such as chamomile, lavender, or rose can be soothing and calming, allowing for deeper and easier breathing.  Frankincense can be used to aid lung expansion.  Mix the essential oil in a less expensive carrier oil.  You can thicken the lotion with jojoba.
