Allergy medication Benadryl is a very commonly used drug for hay fever. However, this allergy medication has many perks and downfalls. Before taking Benadryl, please check with your doctor if it is safe for you to consume it because it may interact with your other current medication.

Although hay fever is something that you do not want to tolerate, the side effects of taking Benedryl may be something that you do not also want. One possible side effect from taking Benedryl is that you become tired and drowsy after taking it.   Although you can find relief from hay fever symptoms pretty quickly, it can make you fall asleep and without warning. This is not an allergy medication that you will want to take and then go to work.

Over time, can also lose its effectiveness.  This happens when you rely on these medications.  You would find that you need stronger prescription medications to have the same amount of relief.

Some people choose to move one form of allergy medication to another.  Other commonly known allergy medications include Sudafed and Clarinex.  Some other allergy medications are only available upon prescription by your doctor.

You would also need to find out from your doctor if you need to make certain lifestyle changes if you should want to take allergy medications.  For instance, you may need to avoid the sun, in case of certain allergic responses.

Consider also preventative measures as well as other alternative treatments to reduce your dependence on taking allergy medications.  An allergy medication can help provide you with instant relief.  But over a long period of time, the less drugs you have in your body,  the better would be your immune system and health.
